Dr. Perry Mobley,
Pastoral Care Assistant

Dr. Perry Mobley was recently called to serve Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church as its Assistant Pastor over pastoral care. In his new role, Dr. Mobley has three key responsibilities. He will develop and oversee a team of church members to interact with visitors and help them become a part of the Trinity family. Secondly, he and a team of church members will reach out to those who are sick, bereaved, or socially isolated because of illness or disability. Finally, Dr. Mobley will help to build a ministry for older adults. Aptly named POW (People of Wisdom), these individuals will be ministered to as well as ministering to others.

While the role of Assistant Pastor at Trinity is a new one for Dr. Mobley, he is hardly a stranger to the church's congregation. The founding pastor of Trinity, Dr. Mobley helped establish the first Evangelical Presbyterian Church in the Pee Dee area in August 1984. He served as pastor of Trinity from that time until his retirement in 1992. During Dr. Mobley's first tenure at Trinity, he led the church through a building program in which the current church on Beltline Drive was constructed. His strong leadership abilities led the denomination to elect him as the Moderator for the Seventh General Assembly in 1987, which includes the US and Argentina. Still active on the General Assembly, Dr. Mobley has served on the Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Presbytery's Ministries Committee.

Dr. Mobley's various ministries since his graduation from Columbia Seminary include churches in Havana, Florida; Tifton, Georgia; and Knoxville, Tennessee. His talents as a church builder and leader were recognized by King College in Bristol, Tennessee when he was awarded an honorary Doctoral Degree. Dr. Mobley has also served at Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC and eventually came to Florence as pastor of First Presbyterian Church where he remained until he led the efforts to establish Trinity.

"Having Perry back at Trinity with his experience and his love for the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed a blessing," says Dr. Bryan Slater, Pastor of Trinity. "His humble, servant-hearted spirit and his love for people have made Perry's return a real joy for me personally and for the members of Trinity."

Dr. Mobley's very competent and equally servant-hearted wife, Jeane, make his return to Trinity a double blessing! Dr. Slater continues, "Perry and Jeane have fit in perfectly, and it has been my privilege to have them return to serve as co-laborers in the harvest here."
